Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon(PAH) The End Product Of A Burnt Food

What is Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon?
These are Hydrocarbons-Organic compounds containing only carbon and hydrogen that are composed of multiple Aromatic ring. You don't get? See pictures below!

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon are usually neutral, non-polar molecules found in coal and tar deposits. They as well produced by incomplete combustion of organic matter (e.g The end products of our burnt food). Other production of PAH are usually environment pollution such as wood burning, diesel engine exhaust, emission from cars, Smoking(Esp. Tobacco smoking).

What are the effects of PAH on Human Health?
Well it doesn't go well with the human system, in fact it's effect is horrible.
1. Cancer
PAH has been linked to Skin, Lung, Bladder, Liver and Stomach cancers
Let me explain it to you in a simple way about how it becomes cancer by avoiding the big grammars in science and biology.
The formation of cancer is called Carcinogenesis or oncogenesis or tumorigenesis.
What is Carcinogenesis?
This is the formation of a cancer, whereby normal cells are transformed into cancer through mostly mutation.
The uncontrolled and often rapid proliferation of cells can lead to benign tumors; some types of these may turn into malignant tumors (cancer) into cancer cells.
PAHs that affect cancer initiation are typically first chemically modified by enzymes into metabolites that react with DNA, leading to mutations. When the DNA sequence is altered in genes that regulate cell replication, cancer can result. Image below.

2. Cardiovascular disease
Well... Mostly Smokers can relate to the popular slogan they see on every cigarette pack they buy.
The process of this disease is similar to that of cancer.

I think I have tried to lecture you on why you should at least try to avoid burnt food which does you no good rather than harm consuming it. I may not have laid more emphasis on PAH as a source of environmental pollution because we are well aware of it but not the case of burnt food which is dangerous to our health.
Thank you for reading with me, Stay safe and enjoy life...it's worth it.
